Jessica DeJesus is a results-driven professional highly experienced in deadline driven environments. She’s a natural leader and operational problem-solver successful at maintaining budgets, overseeing staff and optimizing program operations.
Jessica DeJesus has been a tax preparer since 1997, starting her small business by only completing close friends’ tax returns after working a 9-5 corporate accounting job. From as young as nine years old, she has acted as a translator for her elementary-educated Spanish-speaking parents. Her handling of bills, finances, and professional documents from such a young age was not an easy task, but it sparked a love for accounting and business that she’s carried with her for her entire life. Now, after evolving her full-time career through multiple high-status positions, such as the Deputy Commissioner for the City of Philadelphia’s Procurement Department and her current role as Director for the Research Support Center at the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design, Jessica has grown her tax business, TaxSpace, to over 200 clients in the Philadelphia area. She now has her very first storefront, located just five minutes from the house her clients have known and loved for years.
Alongside her professional growth, Jessica has achieved many great things that her child self, moving from Puerto Rico to Philadelphia multiple times, couldn't have dreamed of. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and her most recent achievement: a Master’s in Law from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.
Jessica has committed herself throughout the years to serving her community of Latinos, working as a volunteer and ultimately president of the Philadelphia Chapter of Prospanica (Association of Hispanic MBA's and Business Professionals). She has honored Prospanica’s mission of uplifting, educating, and guiding young Latinos across Philadelphia to the corporate and higher education worlds. She advocates for her community and uses the skills she has developed over her lifetime to assist those like her parents, who do not have easy access to financial literacy and guidance.
As TaxSpace grows, Jessica pledges to keep her community alongside her, from the clients who have been there since 1997 to the clients who arrive tomorrow, assuring that everyone can feel represented and free to ask those “silly” questions.
